Building With Bay West Homes

The journey of building a new house...

It's been forever since we've updated this site, but in some ways, that's a good thing. :-) Things with the house are going pretty good - we have our six month follow-up soon (we've been in the house for seven months). We need to make a list of the outstanding issue, but Ashley and I are so busy we've had a hard time doing it. Most of the issues are either really minor or really major - and the major ones are unlikely to be fixed.

For example, it has been raining here lately, and it seems that the people who build our garage didn't slant it downwards slightly - so when it rains, the waters flows INTO our garage and forms a nice big puddle at the entrance to the garage. Just like our basement, there doesn't seem to be much care taken for pouring concrete angled to force water to flow in the right direction (towards the drain in the basement, and away from the garage). I don't know if this is something that Bay West can fix, but I suspect it will end up on the "Oops we're sorry but can't fix that" list. A little frustrating, but not the end of the world.

The house is "wearing" quite well - we made some good choices regarding the flooring and materials. I personally think we should have chosen a deep beige colour for the siding vs. white, but at the time we thought white would look the best. Ashley still likes the white, but I want the outside to compliment the inside of the house so there's a natural flow of colour as people step inside. The things you learn after the fact! We'll probably redo the siding on the house a few years down the road.
