I bit the bullet and did a full reinstall, first booting to a Windows 2000 CD in order to delete all the partitions on the disk. There were actually only three unrecognized devices in Device Manager, so rather than running the driver CD to load the drivers, I downloaded them from Dell's site. And no, nothing Roxio.

Hmm. Now that I think about it, when I reinstalled everything on the laptop, I didn't see a disc for the Roxio product. I wonder if it was only installed on the device with no backup? I hate it when they do that. Meh. The built-in Vista apps are pretty damn good for most people...

When I ordered mine, I saw no mention of any antivirus or burning software in the order process. Sure enough, there's the NAV trial and the Roxio suite on the finished product.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking about paying an extra $10 or whatever the subsidy is that Dell gets paid. I doubt it's even that high - I bet it's no more then $5 total per PC...

You know, mabey that should be an option when building a Dell PC. Allow for a "No Extra Crap" (name negotiable) option and allow the user to pay whatever subsidised money Dell would normally receive from Google and others.
