Photography

I’m very passionate about photography, and one of my goals in 2007 is to advance the level of my photography. Great photography is about the photographer and the moment in time he’s trying to capture, so I try to avoid being too focused on my equipment - but at the moment I’m shooting with a Nikon D200, two 8 GB CF cards (and a smattering of smaller cards), a Nikor 18-200mm lens, a Nikor prime 50mm lens (the F1.8 lens), and a Tokina 12-24mm wide angle lens. For a while I was bouncing back and forth between JPEG and RAW, but I’ve been shooting exclusively in RAW now for about eight months. Lately I’ve decided to shoot in RAW+JPEG because sometimes the camera churns out a JPEG that looks beautiful and is beyond my skills to match exactly with RAW manipulations. I say whatever works, do it.

I tend to print my photos on my Epson R1800 printer or using an online service - I’ve been experimenting with different services lately, but at the moment I’m quite impressed with London Drugs’ matte prints (they’re not really matte, they’re lustre prints). Now I just have to figure out this whole colour matching/calibration thing to get my prints to look how I really want them to look.
