Building With Bay West Homes

The journey of building a new house...

Saturday, February 09, 2002

So you might be thinking to yourself "Jason and Ashley must have been crushed under moving boxes, and that's why they haven't posted in a week...". Well, in a metaphysical sense that's quite true (we have many boxes left to unpack), but we're still alive!

It's been a very interesting week. Our basement flooded, we've found new and exciting flaws in our house, but we've also come to love it a great deal - building a house is a labour of love, no doubt about it.

More to come tomorrow & Monday - and of course, the PICTURES! :-)

Today is moving day! It's bright and early Saturday morning, and we're busy packing up the final things before the movers get here in half an hour. We spent several hours at our house last night, and while we love it, there are still a few things that remain to be done. We were mystified by Canyon Plumbing installing our dishwasher, yet leaving all the bottom panelling off. Why start a job and only do half of the work? Ashley cut her hand trying to put the panel on (I was still on my way at the time). It's one thing to move in to a house with minor touch-ups that need completing, it's another to have to hand-assemble appliances that were supposed to be professionally installed. And we're disappointed with the shape our cabinets are in. Dozens of nicks and scratches, broken door edges, etc. I'd never work with Prestique Kitchens again if given the choice.

We'll be posting some pictures of how great everything looks later!

We spent several hours last night moving the smaller boxes from our condo to the new house. Because Prestique Kitchens made so many mistakes, they were back working yesterday, and again this morning. They cut the holes in ALL the bathrooms incorrectly, so they had to come back and remove the counter-tops. Instead of replacing them with fresh pieces of wood, however, it looks like they glued the part they cut out back into the hole, and will cut from that instead. I hope that it will be as stable as it should be - we'll see if our sinks fall through the counter. :-)

We're moving more boxes up today, and there's a cleaning crew in our house again to clean up the mess that Prestique Kitchens left. We received our keys yesterday, and when we arrive later today our house should be ready for us! More pictures & commentary later tonight, then we're offline until Saturday when hopefully our cable modem will get us back up and running.
