Building With Bay West Homes

The journey of building a new house...

Wow - I can't believe we haven't updated this since December! It's been a few months, and not much has changed, but that's not really a good thing. We submitted our one-year walk through list of fixes to BayWest over three weeks ago, and we haven't heard back from them yet. We've called and left a voice mail, but didn't get a call back. The biggest frustration I have with the house right now is the basement - it's freezing! I bought a digital thermometer just so I could figure out how cold it was getting, and on top of my desk (not on the floor) the temperature during the evenings gets down to 15 Celsius (59 Fahrenheit). That's COLD...so cold that I need to have a heater sitting beside me during the day. It's been very, very cold in Calgary the past month - right now it's -30 Celsius outside, and when that wind gets going, it gets even colder.

I wish I knew more about house construction to figure out exactly what the problem is, but I know that freezing air come out from under our baseboards in the basement isn't a good thing. Likewise the wall cut-out near our electrical panel is a huge drain on the head in the basement - if you put your hand anywhere near the hole you can feel cold air blowing. Not "leaking", blowing. We've stuffed a towel in there to minimize the problem, but what we really need it to get insulation and seal it up - something that should have been done originally.
