I was awarded the MVP recognition this year again for my work in the Windows Mobile world – 12th year running – and the award is really cool. It’s really cool not because it’s a shiny thing I can put on my shelf to make myself feel important (I buy big monitors for that ;-)), but because they’ve implemented a “token” system whereby each year re-awarded MVPs will get a new year slice they can put on top of the previous one. This prevents the tremendous waste of sending out the same award year after year with a new date stamped on it. I think it’s great that the people working on the MVP program came up with such a smart way to reduce waste.
If I Had a Few Million Dollars to Spend…
Wow…if I had an excess of money and nothing better to spend it on – which is pretty much impossible – I’d definitely snap up one of these Ki homes. Talk about gorgeous design from top to bottom! I’ve never seen such heavily Asian-themed home design before…the photos of the landscaping look like my photos of Japan. I’ve heard of micro-communities before, but this is a new one to me: there are only lots, one home per lot, in this whole development. Maybe they’ll build a sushi restaurant on the way in…
Isn’t Canada Part of North America?
I don’t tend to have an inferiority complex when it comes to being Canadian, but I do find it amusing the way Canada is so often simply not listed when companies list their localized versions. The above screen-shot is from the NVIDIA site – notice how only Mexico and USA are listed as being part of North America? Where did Canada go? It seems pretty silly that Canada isn’t listed, or at least USA/Canada. Would that really be so hard?
Photos of Logan’s Second Month At Home
Logan’s two months old now! It’s been a fun month for photos as he’s starting to get more expressive and animated. I worked hard to cull the photos and did pretty well for a month of shooting in terms of keeping the collection tight. I also sold my Nikon D60 and bought a Nikon D5000, so I’ve started to play with DSLR video for the first time. It’s been interesting! I really do need to write about that for Digital Home Thoughts…
Love is Patient: Words Worth Reading
“Love will inspire you to become a patient person. When you choose to be patient, you respond in a positive way to a negative situation. You are slow to anger. You choose to have a long fuse instead of a quick temper. Rather than being restless and demanding, love helps you settle down and begin extending mercy to those around you. Patience brings an internal calm during an external storm.
No one likes to be around an impatient person. It causes you to overreact in angry, foolish and regrettable ways. The irony of anger toward a wrongful action is that it spawns new wrongs of its own. Anger almost never makes things better. In fact, it usually generates additional problems. But patience stops problems in their tracks. More than biting your lip, more than clapping a hand over your mouth, patience is a deep breath. It clears the air. It stops foolishness from whipping its scorpion tail all over the room. It is a choice to control your emotions rather than allowing your emotions to control you, and shows discretion instead of returning evil for evil.”
– Excerpt from The Love Dare
I’m starting to go through The Love Dare with my church small group, and the first section is on love being patient. Patience doesn’t always come easily to me, though I have noticed it’s starting to come to the forefront more being a parent – which is a good thing, because I think I’ll need 100x more patience than I have now in order to be a good father to Logan. It’s amazing when I think of how much more patient God is with me than I am with anyone else in His Creation…

We just have to wait until he can talk to ask him how it went. 🙂

Such Amazing Generosity: Logan’s First Baby Shower
Earlier this week Logan has his first baby shower, and Ashley and I were blown away at the generosity shown by the friends and family that attended. Logan received books, toys, and a lot of new clothes. That’s a good thing, because he’s growing so fast he’s already not fitting in many of his newborn clothes – and he’s not quite six weeks old yet! We had him weighed and measured last week, and he was 10 pounds and 22 inches long. Could you imagine gaining 25% of your body weight and 10% of your height in only five weeks? It’s amazing how fast babies grow – and Logan has another 18 years or so of growing to do.

The Funniest Geeky Music Video Ever!
If you’ve never played an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), you won’t find this video as funny as I do, but if you have any background in online gaming, you’ll appreciate the clever lyrics. And if you’ve never checked out The Guild, you should – it’s absolutely hilarious!
Perhaps the Cutest Shoes Ever Made
Today the courier delivered to us perhaps the cutest shoes ever made! They’re from my uncle and aunt, who are far away in Phoenix, Arizona, and should fit Logan when he’s in the 16-20 month range…I’m tempted to put them on him now because they’re so adorable. 😉
