Logan Dunn’s Post-Birth Video

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

This is a little something I put together from the video clips I took of Logan right after he came out of Ashley. The first few seconds are a little shocking when he’s not breathing, but that’s not entirely abnormal and after a bit of O2 he starting doing just fine. The song I created the piano loop from is “Breathe Me” (how appropriate, no?) by Sia.

The Greatest Baby Shirt Ever Made: Level 1 Human

The Family Meeting Logan - 006

I used think that the “I’m a Boob Man” baby shirts were the height of baby-apparel humour, but the coolest “onesie” I’ve ever seen is pictured above, made by my brother Aaron. It’s perhaps the ultimate shirt for the son of an old-school pencil and paper RPG guy like myself. That’s the Neverwinter Nights font to boot, so extra geek cred for that. So cool! You’ll have to wait a year to level up Logan! My brother made some other great shirts that I’ll take pictures of soon.

Logan Robert Dunn, Birth to 48 Hours

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

I’ve finished processing all of the photos I took of Logan and the journey we’ve been through as a family in the first two days, and have published them over on my photo site with captions to tell the story. Below are a few sample images – my baby is beautiful! From a photography perspective, I’m stunned at how superb the images turn out with my Nikon D300 and the 24-70 f/2.8 lens. That lens may be as heavy as a lead brick, but it’s worth carrying to get such beautiful photos. Now I just have to get to all those videos I took…and I hope regular readers of this blog will understand that for the next couple of weeks, I’m going to be talking a lot about little Mr. Logan Dunn.

Say Hello to Logan Robert Dunn

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

At 7:20 AM on August the 16th, Logan Robert Dunn came into this world via C-Section. Both mother and baby are doing well. He’s 20 inches long, weighs 7 pounds 9 ounces, and was born at the Calgary Foothills hospital. The staff here are great – special thanks to Dr. Paul Martyn for the great job he did on the surgery. This is a wonderful blessing, and I’m humbled and awed that God would give us such a beautiful baby to care for and raise.

Great Wedding Photos are Worth the Investment

Monday, August 10th, 2009

That wedding I was at last weekend for my sister-in-law (and now brother-in-law)? Their photographer has finished processing some of the photos, and has posted them to her blog. Here are three sample images:

FORNATARO0339

FORNATARO0372

Are those some great photos or what? My one and only regret from my wedding to Ashley back in 2001 was that I didn’t find the right kind of wedding photographer…meaning I was focused on not spending too much money, and not focused enough on getting real value for my dollar – and value in this case is having great photos that you’ll appreciate for years to come. I don’t have many regrets in my life, but this is one of them. So if you’re planning on getting married someday, take my advice: don’t skimp on the photographer. Spend the money to get someone good, someone who will take pictures of you all day/night long and really capture the wedding event. In ten years no one is going to remember how fancy the chair coverings were, or what your wedding cake looked like, but photos of you and your husband or wife are going to last forever.

Looking for the Dunn Baby Registry?

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

This post is mostly for family members and friends: if you’re looking for our baby registry, unfortunately Babies ‘R Us doesn’t have a function to directly link to the registry. So here’s what you need to do to find it:

  1. Go to the Babies ‘R Us Registry Lookup page
  2. Under the Registry # section on the right side, use the number 43419937
  3. That’s it, you’ve found our baby registry

Our son is due to arrive on or around August 29th. :-)

I’m Having a Son!

On Thursday Ashley went for her second ultrasound, and we were told some very exciting news we’ve been anxious to hear: we’re having a baby boy! Ashley, and pretty much everyone else, was sure it was going to be a girl, but I had a hunch it was going to be a boy. We’re very excited about this news, and I’m already thinking about which superhero I’ll dress the little guy up in first. ;-)

Goodbye Nana Dunn, We’ll Miss You

On Sunday the 1st of March, 2009, Ethel Dunn, known to our family as “Nana”, passed away in Red Deer Alberta. It was sudden so there was no opportunity to say goobye, but she didn’t suffer, for which I’m thankful. My only regret is that she won’t be here to greet my child, which will be the first grandchild from our part of the family. Goodbye Nana, we’ll all miss you…

Hearing My Baby’s Heartbeat For The First Time

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

It didn’t last more than a few seconds, but it was still quite amazing to hear the heartbeat of my baby. Wow. :-)
